The Flying Times
A ton of things have happend since Thanksgiving. If I were to write about it all, this would be the world's longest post, and y'all would be about 50 years older when you finished reading it. Therefore, I will try to be as concise as possible.
The day after Thanksgiving, we (the team) decorated for Christmas. We had a lot of fun putting up our Christmas tree and stringing lights. At home, we never decorated this early. Sometimes we didn't even get our tree until the week before Christmas. And it is always down before New Year's Day.
The next week was pretty average. Then on Friday, I packed my bags and flew with the rest of the team to Taipei for the weekend. We were joining all the other teams in Taiwan for a retreat/confrence. It was basically a time to share school experiances, fellowship with friends, eat American food, and spend money.
One of the first stops we made when we got there, was Starbucks. For better or worse, I am becoming a coffee drinker. I am by no means addicted to it, nor do I want to or intend to be. But I have gotten to where I do enjoy the smell and like the flavor. I have not yet been able to drink it straight. After Starbucks, we immediantly hit the McDonalds. Maybe one day, Kinmen will get a McDonalds. But it hasn't happened yet. That evening, I went to Chili's. It was SO good. Aside from eating, I also had a good time browsing the bookstore.
By Sunday afternoon, we were back in Kinmen. Upon arriving, I really felt like I was coming home. It is nothing like the emotion I will feel when returning to the states, but it was a pretty good simulation. And I can't even imagine what it will be like when we do finally return Home.
The next two days were good. I was a little tired from my trip to Taipei, but other than that it was fine. On Tuesday, some of the members in Jarita's family arrived. They will be staying for about a week and then going on to Taipei to do some more sightseeing.
Today, I went to GuCheng Elementry School as usual. But it was very diffrent in that I did not teach any English classes. We had a school field trip for the entire day. We saw practically everything. We went hiking, and toured the zoo. We ate lunch and walked around at a really nice park. It was a lot of fun and I was able to get to know my students on a more personal level.
Well, that is it in a nutshell. I took some pictures. Maybe I will put some up....maybe.
