Tourism
Well, I was going to post some pictures. But my Internet is at it's normal slow. So, you will just have to endure my words. Perhaps I will put up some pictures at another time.
My trip to Taiwan was actually almost two weeks ago. I have just been too busy as of late to post anything about it.
I went with my teammate, Jarita, and her two sisters, who were visiting her. We flew into the Tai-Chung on Friday. We took a bus to Nantou and then took a 15 minute taxi ride from downtown Nantou to the school where the Nantou team lives. We spent the afternoon making tortillas for the Mexican dinner, playing Dutch Blitz, and having a grand old time hanging out with the team.
The next morning, we woke up bright and early and made our way through the rice patties with all our luggage (we didn't really have that much. I just had my backpack and the other girls had one small roller each) and caught another bus for Taipei. After a long 3 hour ride, we finally made it.
We stepped off the bus and made our way directly to Taipei 101. We made quite the scene in 101 with four foreigners with all their luggage walking all over the building. We did the tourist thing and went to the top of the building and took lots of pictures. Then it was time for one of Jarita's sisters to catch her flight back to the states. So, we left 101 and put said sister on a bus to go to the international airport.
We then met up with a good friend of ours, Angela. She took us to her house where we would be spending the night during our stay in Taipei. We dropped off our luggage and made our way to a Japanese restaurant to eat lunch.
After a fabulous lunch, we went to the metro malls (the stores located around the MRT) We spent the remainder of the afternoon there looking for a shirt for me but could not find the one that I wanted. So, we left and went back to Angela's house.
Angela's mom made dinner for us. It was delicious. We watched a movie, talked to a friend on Skype, and then went to bed.
The next morning, I had a delightful breakfast of several different types of breads, including one called squid bread because they use the ink from the squid to dye the bread. It was actually very good. The center was filled with something like chicken salad and you couldn't even taste the squid. I also had a yogurt drink.
After breakfast, we went to the Chang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. We walked around, took pictures, and did more of the tourist stuff. Afterwards, we went to Chili's for lunch. Once again, the food was fantastic. After stuffing ourselves completely, we hightailed it back to Angela's house, grabbed our luggage, hopped in the car (Angela's father's car) and he (Angela's dad) drove us to the airport where we flew back to our wonderful small island.
And that was my trip to Taiwan. I really should try to post more often. I might even try. But no promises.
:o)
